What Plausible says it is
The company describes itself as independent, self-funded and profitable, running since 2018, made and hosted in the EU, with open-source code. Its marketing lists simple metrics, a lightweight script, a privacy focus and no cookie banner.
How it differs from Google Analytics
The main difference is the business model: Plausible is subscription-funded, while Google Analytics 4 has a free plan. That means a Plausible bill grows with your traffic. Plausible also offers a Google Analytics import on the Starter plan, which helps if you want to keep historical data when switching.
Whether it is a replacement depends on what you use GA4 for. Plausible positions simple, privacy-friendly reporting, so check that the goals, events, funnels and ecommerce attribution you rely on are covered on the plan you would buy. We have not tested feature parity, so run the free trial against your real needs.
How to choose
- One site, simple reporting: Starter.
- Up to three sites or shared dashboards: Growth.
- Funnels, ecommerce attribution or the Stats API: Business.
